Stafford to the Rams in Franchise Overhaul
Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff were part of a two team trade that sent two first round picks to the Lions and the exchange of quarterbacks. The price tag is hefty, as many around the league were gauging this deal in preparation for a Deshaun Watson deal which is bound to follow.
Good for Matt Stafford, getting the hell out of dodge. He has been beaten and bruised as the QB for the Detroit Lions over the years. It is a little surprising that the Los Angeles Rams gave up what they did to get him. The Rams are now without a 1st round pick until 2023. They have not had a first round pick since 2017. The LA Rams obviously like to rebuild through free agency and not the draft. Quite the opposite for the Miami Dolphins.
The price tag on Deshaun Watson has to be three first round picks as well as a couple of seconds at this point. This is a quarterback league and the price tag for a quarterback in this league is high. The Dolphins have their QB of the future in Tua, it makes no sense to give up all of our draft capital in return for Deshaun Watson, at this point in the franchise.
Deshaun could end up with the Jets. Which would ultimately feel like restarting for him in Houston. I am not sure why Dolphins fans are afraid of facing Deshaun Watson 2x a year in the Division. We have beaten Brady in his prime, and our defense can shut down the best of offenses. The New York Jets are more than an elite QB away from being good, just ask the Texans.
I am happy for Matt Stafford. New start, new beginnings. He’s a talented QB, but maybe the 3rd most talented QB in his own division. The price was high, but everything in LA is more expensive.
I am a little worried that Jared Goff might get eaten alive by Dan Campbell in Detroit. There’s going to be a little change from high-class living to the gritty Motor City. The positive for Jared Goff, he gets to play in the NFC North and he’s the second best QB in the division.
Time for the Dolphins to start making a splash in free-agency.
